Sample Trip Activities

South Baranof Island Wilderness

The Alaskan wilderness on the south of Baranof Island hosts cascading hot springs juxtaposed against caving blue-cast glaciers which cascade down the park’s mountain slopes to reach the island’s surrounding waters. We might kayak among nearby icebergs, take some time to fish or venture out to photograph the abundant wildlife in this area including puffins, mountain goats, Steller’s sea lions, orcas and porpoises, brown coastal bears and grizzlies, eagles, and more. Don’t forget to bring your camera battery charger!

Tongass National Forest and Hot Springs

We continue our cruise into the wilderness areas of Alaska’s Tongass National Forest, the largest national forest in the United States and the home of many species of endangered and rare flora and fauna. As we cruise, we spot marine and seacoast wildlife as we explore different bays and inlets of the Tongass. Along the way, we can decide what we want to spend our time doing – from taking in scenic waterfalls, soaking in local hot springs, jumping off the M/V Alaskan Harvest for a nature walk, fishing in either fresh or salt water or wildlife viewing.

Our evening and daily anchorages will vary from remote inlets, to stunning wilderness fjords surrounded by cascading waterfalls and glacier rimmed mountainsides.

Whale Breaching

Located on Frederick Sound at the tip of Mitkof Island, Petersburg, Alaska still makes its living from the sea and not being a port of call for large cruise ships, hosts a charming and thriving seacoast culture with a strong Norwegian heritage. Petersburg lies near the summer feeding grounds of hundreds of humpback whales and contains the Stikine-LeConte Wilderness Area, with beautiful LeConte Glacier calving off tons of bright blue icebergs.
